Overstimulation

I’ve often felt like a fraud about my autism spectrum disorder diagnosis when the conversation turns to sensitivity to certain stimuli, because I can’t ever think of anything that overstimulates me. In fact I’m only ever at my most comfortable when I’m surrounded by loud, abrasive noise. Factories, engines, anything the “neurotypical” person describes as being “too loud to hear yourself think”. Ahhh. I love it. Love harsh music, harsh sounds, etc. White noise. Static. Love it.

Anyway, I’m writing this because I’ve just tried to organise and tidy and clean and I get really overstimulated doing it. It all gets too much. By the time I’m finished I’m twitching like a speed-freak, stimming like crazy and just so glad it’s over. Feel really oversensitive and just need to shut down for a while.

So apologies to any of the nice people who’ve recently read and liked some of my posts. This is just to get this realisation down before I forget it. And when I write things elsewhere I just lose them and forget they even exist. At least on here this is sort of organised.

Phew. Man, I feel soooo fucked up.
